Halloween

What is Halloween?

Halloween is an annual festivity. It is celebrated next October, 31st. (Remember!!!, we say dates with ordinal numbers, not cardinal.)The name "Halloween" comes from Catholic culture: "All Hallows' Day" or "All Saints Day". Catholics celebrate this day to honour all saints in heaven. But, other cultures celebrate spirits come to our world and stay here during one night.

Who is Jack O'Lantern?

Once upon a time, in Ireland, there was a man called Jack. He was a farmer. He liked drinking in the tavern. He liked playing tricks with his friends.

One day, Jack was very hungry and wanted to eat something, and he saw an apple tree. He likes apples. But, whose is this tree?
A dark and sinister man was next to the tree. He has got dark hair, dark eyes and a black coat.
Jack wanted an apple but he can't take one from this tree, because this man was between Jack and the apple tree.
The dark man said to Jack: "Do you like apples?, Do you want an apple?"
Jack said: "Yes, I am hungry, but I can't climb the tree"
The man's eyes were red now and Jack thought he was the Devil. Jack wanted to do a trick to the Devil.
"Can you climb to the tree and take an apple for me?" said Jack.
"You can give me your soul and I give you an apple" said the Devil.
Jack didn't like giving his soul to the Devil. He decided play a trick to the Devil. "Yes, I will give you my soul", said Jack.
When the Devil was climbing the apple tree, Jack put a silver chain with a cross around the trunk. Devil can't go down, and Jack go home laughing. He played a trick to the Devil!
But, one day, Jack died and went to heaven. There, there was a man with white hair, blue eyes and long hair.
He was Saint Peter.
Saint Peter said to Jack, "You can't go to heaven, you are a bad person. You play tricks to the people".
Jack went to hell. There, the Devil was waiting for him.
"You can't go to hell, you are a bad person". Jack was sad. He can't go to heaven. He can't go to hell.
Devil was angry and decided Jack must light the souls to the hell with a pumpkin lantern.

Olympic Games

What's this?

They are five circles with different colours. Can you tell me the name of these colours in English?

If you don’t remember the name of some of them, please watch this video.

In this video the word "colour" (color in Spanish) appears as "color". This is American English.

Now, I’m going to tell you a little bit about the story of these Olympic Rings. They represent the five parts of the world which are involved in Olympic Games. These six colours are in all the flags which participate in Olympic Games, with no exception: The blue and yellow of Sweden, the blue and white of Greece, the tri- colours of France, England and America, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Hungary, the yellow and red of Spain next to the novelties of Brazil or Australia, with old Japan and new China. Pierre de Coubertin designed this flag and was the author of the most important idea in the Olympic Games,

“The most important thing is not to win but to take part”

Do you know Olympic Games are in London today?
